How To Host A Sushi Making Class Fundraiser

December 12 2017

FlipGive is a free team funding app that makes raising money a breeze. Teams earn cash back for buying the things they already need. Get paid whenever you shop, dine out, book hotels or activities.

A sushi making class is a really fun way to raise money for any cause, but it does require a lot of planning and preparation. If you want to run this sort of fundraising event, make sure that you have at least one professional on hand, so that your food is prepared properly and your participants don’t get sick.

Prepping for your fundraiser:

Approach a local sushi restaurant and see if they would be interested in partnering with you for your fundraising event. This works especially well if it’s a new restaurant that could use some publicity. Ask if a chef would be available to come teach your class, or if your sushi making class could be hosted at their restaurant. Make sure that if you’re doing your fundraising event at the restaurant, you clarify what you need to bring and what the restaurant will provide for your fundraiser.

If you’re planning on putting together your fundraiser yourself, enlist the help of a team of volunteers to prep all of the food. Sushi is made with ingredients that can be delicate to work with, so make sure at least one of your volunteers knows what they’re doing. If you’re providing items for your participants you’re going to need:

-sushi rice (lots of it)

-vertically cut vegetables

-raw or cooked fish

-mats to roll the sushi

-saran wrap

-garbage cans

-drinks

Pricing your fundraiser:

Before you let your community know about your fundraiser, you need to decide on the cost. If you’re hosting your event at a restaurant, talk to the chef and the owner and get a price on your event from start to finish. You’ll want to make sure that you charge your participants enough, so that your fundraiser raises money.

Marketing your fundraiser:

A sushi making event is fun for the whole family, so it’s a great idea for any kind of fundraising endeavour. When you’re spreading the word about the event, make sure to be clear with your supporters on exactly what they are getting for their ticket price. That means how many rolls they get to make, what ingredients are available, and whether or not dietary restrictions will be accommodated.

Bonus cash back for your fundraiser:

If you choose to run your fundraising event yourself, you could earn up to 10% cash back on the items you buy, if you buy through a FlipGive fundraising campaign page.
