Hosting a BBQ fundraiser is an amazing way to raise money for your team, cause, or school over the summer months. A BBQ fundraiser is an event that isn’t as simple as it sounds. Although the event itself is self explanatory, the actual preparation is extremely labor intensive, so make sure that you have a team of volunteers to help you with this fundraiser.

What you’ll need for your fundraiser:

First and foremost, you’re going to need a lot of food for this fundraiser. Prepping food for a BBQ is more difficult than other kinds of food fundraisers because your fundraiser deals with perishable items. You need to make sure that you have proper refrigeration for the mean items for your fundraising event. Food items you’ll need include meat, buns, condiments, and drinks.

You will need tables set up for all of the items that will be included in your fundraising event. If there won’t be anywhere to sit during your fundraising event, make sure that your participants are aware of this so they can prepare accordingly for your fundraiser.

Have a backup plan for your fundraiser:

One of the downsides of having an outdoor fundraising event is that it is extremely weather dependent. If you live in a city where the weather is unreliable, make sure you have a backup plan for your fundraising event. Check the weather during the week leading up to your fundraiser, and if there is a chance of rain, find an alternate space or change the date of your fundraising event.

Have a storage space for your fundraiser:

Your storage space could be anything from a community centre freezer to a refrigerated truck, but make sure you have a space for the food for your fundraiser, especially if it’s going to be hot outside.

How your fundraiser raises money:

Your fundraiser can raise money a few ways. You can change an entry fee for your fundraiser and have an all you can eat BBQ event, or you can charge an entry fee that comes with tickets for food and drinks. The last option is to have pay stations at different areas of your fundraising event and have participants pay a small entry fee and then purchase whatever items them way. You also don’t have to run the food all on your own. You can hire a catering company to help you out.
